So here are some guides to help you fix it.

If your CD/DVD drive is not working all of a sudden it is probably dead. These things move around a lot and sometimes the "eye" can wear out. Now they don't make glasses for this eye, or in this case a monocle, so you're going to have to replace it. Drives are pretty cheap and easy to fix. Also, they're readily available throughout the internet.
Get your computer model number located at the bottom of your laptop and look on ebay for a replacement. (Check out the "Monitor" section to find out how to do this part)
To get these things out, there is usually only one screw holding them in. Now this varies with each laptop but if you just imagine where the end of the drive is located inside the computer while looking at the bottom of your laptop, there should be a screw near there. Installing them is as easy as plugging it in and putting the screw back in.
Another thing you might want to try is to update your driver. I wish I didn't say this because now I am going to have to explain it to you... Alright... here we go.
- For Windows Vista/7, just type in "device manager" in the start menu. For older versions, I believe this is located in your control panel.
- Now look for the cd/dvd drive. Click on it and it should display the version of cd/dvd drive that you have indented underneath.
- Now right click on your cd/dvd drive and click "update driver software."
This most likely will not do anything but it is worth a shot before you shell out $20 bucks for a new drive.
